Why My Premiere Pro Audio Was Missing After Export (And How I Fixed It)

There’s nothing more frustrating than spending hours editing a video, hitting export, waiting patiently… and then realizing your final video has no sound.

That happened to me when I was just starting out with Adobe Premiere Pro. Everything looked and sounded perfect on the timeline. But after export, silence.

😓 I Thought Something Was Broken

At first, I thought Premiere Pro had a bug or maybe my laptop was acting up. I even tried re-exporting several times. Still no audio.

I checked the volume, the speakers, even played the exported video in different players. Nothing worked. My video was just… mute.

🔍 The Real Problem

After digging around, I finally discovered the mistake: during export, I had unintentionally deselected the audio track in the Export Settings panel.

In Premiere Pro, under the Export Settings, there are checkboxes for both “Video” and “Audio”. I had unchecked “Audio” without realizing it — probably while tweaking other settings.

🛠️ How I Fixed It

Here’s what to do if you face this problem:

  1. Go to File > Export > Media.
  2. In the Export Settings window, make sure both “Video” and “Audio” checkboxes are ticked.
  3. Also double-check that the audio track is not muted or turned down on the timeline.
  4. Choose the right format (like H.264), and re-export.

After doing this, my video exported with perfect audio — and the relief I felt was unreal.

🎯 What I Learned

Sometimes, the problem isn’t big. It’s just a small setting we overlook when rushing to meet a deadline or trying to figure out a new tool.

Since then, I always double-check my export settings — especially that “Audio” box. One tick can save you hours of rework.
