Remember when I shared the story of how I withdrew money from a POS agent and later discovered it was counterfeit—thanks to a bus driver who refused to accept it?
Well, two weeks after that horrible experience, I decided to go back to the POS agent.
When I arrived, I asked her if she remembered me. She said no, explaining that she attends to so many customers daily and can’t possibly remember everyone.
I calmly reminded her of the day I came to withdraw money and unknowingly received counterfeit notes. I explained that I didn’t notice immediately because I was in a hurry, and it was the bus driver who pointed it out when I tried to pay him.
At first, she almost got defensive, asking why I didn’t return immediately. I told her my reasons, but made it clear I wasn’t there for a refund. It had been too long, and I had no proof to back my claim. Instead, I advised her to always double-check the cash she receives to avoid such issues in the future.
I also reminded her that while I may have taken the situation lightly, another customer might not. She apologized and assured me she had no idea the money was fake. She even said she’d never intentionally do such a thing.
Interestingly, I withdrew ₦3,000 from her again that day and made sure to check the notes in her presence. They were all good.
Since then, we’ve actually become good friends. That experience turned out to be the beginning of something positive.
