When you hear about insurance, what comes to mind? Health, life, cars, houses, or maybe even pets. But never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d hear the words “relationship insurance certificate” until my in-laws asked me for one before I could marry their daughter.
At first, I laughed, thinking it was some kind of joke. Insurance? For love? But their faces remained serious. They explained that just like people insure their cars against accidents and their houses against fire, they wanted proof that their daughter’s heart was “covered” in case of heartbreak.
It sounded ridiculous—until I thought about it more deeply. Imagine a world where relationships came with policies:
Break someone’s heart? Pay a fine.
Cheat? The insurance covers emotional damages.
Divorce? A compensation package kicks in.
It would definitely make people think twice before jumping into relationships they weren’t ready to commit to. Maybe my in-laws weren’t entirely wrong to ask for it after all.
But of course, no insurance company in the world issues a “love policy.” The closest thing we have is commitment, loyalty, and trust. Those are the true certificates a person should present before saying “I do.”

In the end, I told them I might not have a paper from an insurance company, but I have something even stronger—a heart willing to stand by their daughter through thick and thin. And that’s a coverage no insurance premium can ever match.
If relationship insurance certificates were real, would you get one for your love life?
