If you’ve ever thought some films feel unrealistic, you might be surprised — sometimes real life is even more incredible.
This is the story of a man from Enugu — known by street names like Ezeani, Ichie Billion, and E Dey Play E Dey Show — accused of ritualism, kidnapping, and other crimes affecting his community.
When the pressure mounted, he tried to escape, unaware that Nigerian authorities were ready to catch him.
My Take as a Street Reporter
I have decided to share societal happenings in a storytelling style — combining facts with engaging narratives. Unlike some formats that focus on raw live reporting, I want to blend seriousness with moments of lightness and humor.
This story fits perfectly for that approach.
Seme Road: The Scene of the Arrest
Officer Prince Orji Ugochukwu, also known on Facebook as Okeosisi Ugo, was on duty at the checkpoint in Gbaji along Seme road when he noticed a man on a motorcycle who looked familiar.
Officer Orji had recently received information and photos of a suspect who was trying to escape justice. He attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the rider refused.
Determined, Officer Orji pursued the motorcycle on another bike and caught up at the next checkpoint.
The Confrontation and Bribery Attempt
The officer ordered the motorcycle rider to return to his checkpoint. On the way back, the suspect denied the accusations, claiming he was returning from the bank and was not involved in any criminal activity.
Officer Orji showed him the viral photos and the details of the crimes, but the man maintained his innocence, even claiming the photo was of his brother.
In a desperate attempt, the suspect offered a bribe of 10 million Naira and his expensive phones to the officer to let him go.
Officer Orji refused the bribe, upheld his duty, and brought the man back to the checkpoint.
Confirmation and Arrest
At the checkpoint, Officer Orji sent the photos to his command for confirmation. Once verified, he handcuffed the suspect and transferred him to the command headquarters.
Despite skepticism from colleagues who did not recognize the man, Officer Orji’s attention to detail and integrity ensured the suspect’s arrest.
What This Story Tells Us
- Criminals sometimes blend into communities and try to escape justice.
- There are still dedicated officers committed to upholding the law, even when faced with tempting bribes.
- Persistence and integrity can prevail over corruption and deceit.
Reflection
If you were the officer and someone offered you millions and expensive gadgets to ignore a crime, what would you do?
- Accept and turn a blind eye?
- Or stand firm and do your duty?
