The whole of Eastern Nigeria was under total lockdown ahead of Nnamdi Kanu’s court case which was on Wednesday.
Before this time, the set of people Nnamdi Kanu left the leadership of IPOB had declared a two-day sit-in at home.
These two days were on Wednesday (18th) and Thursday (26th) all in May 2022.
The Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB declared this sit-at-home in solidarity with Kanu who will be appearing in court on the said dates.
Sit-at-home was declared to force the Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu.
Since the physical protest was becoming a death sentence for the freedom fighters, sitting at home was the only option.
It is no longer news that the order is doing more harm to the Nigerian authority.
This is why they have gone straight ahead to order Facebook to shut down all IPOB accounts on their platform.
It baffles me how someone who has not committed any crime known to the law would be kept in the DSS dungeon for more than 10 months.
Regularly, his case is postponed for reasons best known to the actors involved.
The leaders of Eastern Nigeria have cried out on the issue of insecurity since the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu. Unfortunately, the government is not ready to give listening ears to the cries of the Igbo elders.
On the 18th of May, Nnamdi Kanu is expected to regain his freedom but as usual, the alleged politically influenced court of justice will prevail in adjourning the case.
Despite the economic torture sit-at-home is causing in the East and Nigeria by extension, the government of the day are hellbent on ensuring that Kanu remains in prison.
It is also funny to state that the entire Eastern Nigeria is happy to stay at home in solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu.
If staying home is the only thing that would bring peace and freedom to the leader of IPOB, Igbos won’t mind relaxing back at home.
