Attempting selfie in Arizona state park, hiker fall about 700 feet to his death
Richard Jacobson, 21, was reported dead after falling off Flatiron Summit in Lost Dutchman State Park.
The authorities in Arizona said that the 21-year-old hiker died after falling off a cliff.
The cliff was measured about 700 feet. The hiker was trying to take a selfie on the cliff before the accident happened.
The deceased, Richard Jacobson, was said to have been camping with one of his friends on top of the Flatiron Summit in Lost Dutchman State Park, which is about 40 miles east of Phoenix.
He left his friend to go take a picture of himself at the edge and slipped.
One of the spokespersons with the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office told newsmen on Thursday how the young Richardson ended his own life.
It was also learnt that his friend called 911 around 12:45 a.m. to report the incident.
A search and rescue team of the sheriff’s office were deployed to the summit and found Jacobson’s body at “approximately 400 to 700 feet below,” the spokesperson said.
In the quest to also recover the body of Jacobson, the Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter was called to assist with recovering the body.
“Mr Jacobson went to take a photograph with himself and the city skyline in the background, and he lost his footing, and he slipped, and he fell,” Sergeant Doug People, with the sheriff’s office, told local station Arizona’s Family.
The search and rescue team told the station Jacobson’s death was a rare, tragic accident.
