The veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu is released by the lawless members of the Department of State Security, DSS.
It happened on Friday when a video of Chiwetalu Agu being manhandled by members of the Nigerian army went viral on social media.
His offence was that he was wearing Biafran regalia while sharing N10,000 worth of bread with the poor.
The military tagged his actions as “incitement of violence”. He was brutalised and whisked away to their barracks.
Gunshots were shot in the air by the soldiers to inflict fear on the people who would try to rescue the actor.
The actor said that he was not inciting any violence. All he was doing was trying to help the hungry.
A day later in the army custody, news had it that Chiwetalu Agu was released by the military boys.
The news about his release brought so much joy among his fans and also among Nigerians.
The happiness was short-lived after another verified news had it that the lawless members of the Department of State Security, DSS, rearrested the actor on Saturday.
People started calling for the release of Chiwetalu Agu because if it was a Northerner that was arrested, he wouldn’t spend a day in the custody of the armed forces.
But because he was Igbo and his regalia depicted Igbo, he was made to suffer such humiliation.
Tuesday evening, Chiwetalu Agu was released by the lawless DSS.
This came up after the news of transferring him from Anambra to Enugu and finally to Abuja.
Within the time this story of his transfer to Abuja was going round, the DSS refused his family access to the veteran Nollywood actor.
However, after reaching the terms of the DSS, the Nollywood industry was able to secure the release of Chief Chiwetalu Agu.
